Step by step guide to apply for Vietnam visa for Norway citizens
From August 15th, 2023 all Norwegian passport holders can stay in Vietnam for a maximum of 45 days with visa free. As the Vietnam visa exempted country, the Norwegian citizens can enter Vietnam by any port of arrival including airports, land ports or sea ports.
Norwegian passport holders don’t need Vietnam visa for 45 days;
Norwegian citizens are eligible for maximum 90 days single or multiple entry e-visa;
Norwegian citizens can get visa on arrival with pre-arranged visa approval letter;
1. What do the citizens of Norway need for Vietnam visa?
In order to apply for Vietnam visa, the Norwegian citizens will need a valid passport which is at least 6 months validity from the date of arrival and there are blank pages for visa stamp.
If you travel Vietnam with 45 days visa free, you will need to present the proof of onward ticket to ensure you will leave the country within 45 days for the visa waiver.
2. How do Norwegian nationals apply for Vietnam visa?
2.1. Apply for e-visa for Vietnam
This is new pilot visa system which has just official launched in February 2017. In order to apply for Vietnam e-visa, the Norwegian passport holders will need to prepare the following materials:
- Files of passport data page photo and passport-sized photo: The passport data page photo should show 4 corners and borders of the main page in which all the information is displayed clearly without being flashed or obscured by fingers;
The passport-sized photo must be taken within 6 months with eyes open, straight look, without wearing hat or glasses and be taken on a white or a light coloured plain background; - Credit card or debit card that are enabled to conduct online payment. You can also make a payment via PayPal when you apply for an e-visa on our website;
The e-visa fee (service fee and stamping fee) is paid once when the Norwegian applicants apply for e-visa, thus no cash is required at arrival airport.
Vietnam e-visa is good for those who travel Vietnam less than 90 days with single or multiple entry. However, the citizens of Norway are exempted from Vietnam for 45 days visit thus they can apply for a longer validity e-visa (from 45 – 90 days) with single or multiple entries.
How to apply e-visa for Vietnam?
Step 1: Fill the requirement information in the application form.
Step 2: Pay the visa fee and get e-visa in maximum 3 – 5 working days.
Step 3: Receive an email containing e-visa upon successful application. Please print out the e-visa, bring along with your passport to get on the plane.
Step 4: Present your e-visa at the immigration counter to get entry into Vietnam.

2.2. Apply online for a Vietnam visa on arrival
The citizens of Norway can apply Vietnam visa on arrival from anywhere outside of Vietnam. The Vietnam visa will be picked up upon arrival at the Vietnam airports by showing up the printed approval letter.
In order to get a Vietnam visa on arrival, the Norwegian citizens should pay two types of fee: the processing fee and stamping fee.
Processing fee: It is the fee for expediting visa approval letter.
Stamping fee: It is the fee paid in cash at the visa counter at the arrival airport to get the visa stamp. The applicants must prepare the processing fee in cash (USD or VND) as far as there is no ATM, money changer or any other way to withdraw money in the immigration hall and credit cards are not accepted. Other currencies will be converted into USD at given exchange rate.
Notes:
– Visa on arrival is only applicable for Norwegian citizens traveling Vietnam by air.
